Yanomamis Today
Impact. Destruction. Survival.
What protected them for centuries is no longer enough for a people of ancient origins to survive in the present day.
Continuing the Yanomami Series, this photograph is titled Today. It follows the same approach and technique as the previous piece, Yesterday. The same headdress, the same canvas, yet a crucial detail distinguishes this work. The artist deliberately allowed the leaves and flowers to dehydrate over twenty days, creating a visual representation of the current situation faced by the Yanomami.
This photograph, with digital interventions, is a graphic portrait reflecting a people afflicted by disease, deforestation, hunger, and exploitation—a harsh reality that cannot be ignored. Through the beauty of the photograph, the artist seeks to convey the pain that the Yanomami experience daily. The vibrant colors of red and pink, along with the striking black hues, engage our sensibilities, inviting us to confront the stark reality that unfolds.
Today is a powerful appeal to the collective conscience, a message that becomes even clearer and more urgent. Through the strength of art, this work urges us not only to appreciate its aesthetics but also to reflect on the human suffering it represents, reminding us of our shared responsibility to create a more just and sustainable world.
